Obituary

Albert Eugene Cooper, 84, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Community South Hospital.

Albert (Al) is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Delores (Peck) Cooper; his daughter, Karen Cooper; his sons, Jeff Cooper, Phillip Cooper and Chad Cooper; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his sisters, Barbara Pruitt and Juanita Sicking.

Born and raised in Indianapolis, he was the son of Charles and Lucille (Cook) Cooper. Al was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis.

Al was a graduate of Washington High School, where he played baseball, football and basketball, making all-star team for each. He attended both Indiana University and Purdue University while working full time and starting a family. His career opportunities lead him to many different positions. He worked at IPL, Gemco Manufacturing, Director of Operations for 17 medical labs, St. Vincent Hospital, served as Deputy Commissioner and later as Commissioner of the Department of Insurance for the State of Indiana, and NAMIC.

Al enjoyed all of nature. He had a passion for all outdoor sports, some of which were fishing, hunting, white water rafting. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed most types of music.

Visitation for Al will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where a service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m.
