Albert Edward Blankenship, 92, of Greenwood, died June 6, 2016, at Greenwood Village South Pavilion. Albert was born January 25, 1924 in Whitleyville, Tennessee, the son of Henry Martin and Alta Florence Clark Blankenship.
After 33 years, he retired in 1992 from Chevrolet (General Motors) as a press metal worker. Albert was a member of Southport Church of Christ and the United Auto Workers. He enjoyed traveling and gardening, especially growing trees. Albert was the go-to-person if you needed help with a project.
Albert is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Van de Klashorst Blankenship of Greenwood; daughter, Kathie Allen of Greenwood; sisters, Velma L. Drake of Fishers, Eva Nell Wagner and Jo Helen Wood, both of Greenwood; grandchildren, Cicily Allen of Greenwood, Marci (Chad) Kellar of Indianapolis and Aimee (Tim) Garner of Greenwood; great-grandchildren, Madeline Kellar and Luke Allen Garner. In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mark Allen; sister, Tennie Blankenship and brothers, Sidney, Jonah and Carl Blankenship.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
