Mr. Albert Daniel 'Sonny' Kingery, Greenwood, passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, October 23, 2022. He was 89. Sonny was born January 20, 1933 in Indianapolis Indiana, a son of the late Albert D. Kingery Jr. and Mary (Foltz) Kingery.
Sonny was a proud veteran and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Shortly after his discharge from the Marines, he was hired by what is now known as Amtrak and worked for the railroad as a yard conductor for over 30 years.
Sonny spent much of his leisure time outdoors and loved doing yard work. He could also be found on occasion sitting on a fishing bank or in a boat trying to reel in the big one. He also enjoyed swing dancing and it was while doing this that he met his wife, Carole, to whom he was married for over 32 years. He and Carole loved traveling, especially to the tropics and had visited Hawaii and Key West, Florida several times where they would take excursions to watch the whales.
Sonny also was a beekeeper and enjoyed the honey his bees produced every year as well as watching the birds that would come by his house. He always looked forward to getting together with his buddies from the railroad and sharing time with them.
Sonny will be remembered as a good, kind and generous man.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Carole (Cooper) Kingery; his children, Susan Vondersaar Kingery, Jay (Dianne) Morelock and Sheri Herrin; seven grandchildren as well as 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his stepson, Randy Morelock.
Funeral services will be private and entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
