Aleda Montgomery 96, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away November 10, 2008. She was born Minnie Aleda Cain on October 13, 1912, in Indianapolis, to Frank Michael and Mary Harriet "Hattie" Landers Cain. She married Oliver Charles Montgomery on December 24, 1928, and had three sons and a daughter. She was a graduate of School 22 in Indianapolis and for many years was recognized as the oldest attendee at the school reunions. Aleda worked for many years as a keypunch operator for L.S. Ayres & Co., where Oliver also worked as a truck driver. After Oliver died in 1978, Aleda took up ballroom dancing, winning many contests and spending many late evenings dancing with her friends. She also loved to cruise and saw much of the world this way. Another passion was poker, which she played every Wednesday for many years with her close friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rose Montgomery of Indianapolis; daughter-in-law, Luba Donaldson of Bedford, Texas; grandson, Bruce (Tina) Montgomery of Hurst, Texas, and granddaughters, Darlene (Dick) Ryan of Arlington, Texas, and Sally (Clarence) Cook of Indianapolis. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Montgomery, Kevin Ryan, Geri and Victoria Cook, and Hope and Mason Montgomery, as well as one great-grandson, Keynin Nicholson. Besides her husband and parents, Aleda was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Frances Montgomery; two sons, Arvine Martin Montgomery and Kenneth Oliver Montgomery, and a grandson, Robert James Montgomery. Aleda's two brothers, Robert Cain and Paul Frank Cain, as well as her sister Viola May Cain, also predeceased her. Aleda was an active member of Kessler Krest Church for many years, and especially loved the music in the church. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at the church at 3315 West 56th Street, from 7 - 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 13. The funeral service and burial will take place the following day at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, at 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at 12 p.m. Pastor Dan Wilhite of Kessler Krest Church will preside.
