Alice Flanagan, Avon, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023. She was 72 years old. Alice was born in Beech Grove, IN to her parents Charles and Mary Ann Gilley. She earned her GED from Manual High School and attended Barber School and earned her Barber's License. Alice married her husband, Michael Dennis Flanagan, in 1984 and they shared 15 years of marriage together until Michael passed away on February 6, 1999. Alice owned Alfie's Barber Shop where she worked as a Barber and Cosmetologist for many years. She also worked as a Barber Instructor for Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home for many years. Alice officially retired from organized work when she turned 55 but continued to offer her barber services for her family and friends until she was unable to do so. Alice was a born again Christian and a woman of faith all throughout her life.

Alice loved crafting, sewing, gardening and ironing. She loved to share her creations with her family who were always impressed at her creativity and craftsmanship. Alice put her grandchildren and great grandchildren in the center of her life. Alice was the life of the party and commanded attention everywhere she went. Her bubbly personality and loving nature will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.

Alice is survived by her children, Patricia (Shawn) Shipman, Wanda (Jim) Brandlein, and Joseph Blair; her grandchildren, Gwenn (Blake) Deiters, Kyle (Amarie Castillo) Murray, Sid (Jacinda Perez-Shipman) Shipman, Haden (Danielle Garcia-Shipman) Shipman, Audrey (Aaron Mead) Shipman-Mead, Alex Blair, Evan Shipman, Jake Hemphill, Emerson Hemphill, Nolan Shipman and Jimmy Brandlein; her great grandchildren, Gavin Richard, Hadleigh Richard, Liam Murray, and Stella Jane Mead; her siblings, Wanda (Larry) Cooney, Norma (Don) MCFarland; her nieces and nephews, Kim Barnes, Lori Gilley, Josh Cooney, Jeff (Marcia) Cooney, Jennifer McFarland-Quinn, Donald McFarland Brian Jenkins and Larry Barnes.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael Dennis Flanagan; her siblings, Susan Barnes, Charlotte Foreman and Mary Ann Gilley.

A visitation for Alice will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 3:00 pm.
