Mr. Alphonse 'Al' Obermeyer, 93, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, March 8, 2022. He was 93. Al was born January 19, 1929 in Batesville, Indiana, a son of the late William and Frances (Litzinger) Obermeyer.
Al attended school in Oldenburg, Indiana and came to the Indianapolis area as a young man. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy in the mid to late 1940's toward the end of World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he was employed as a machinist with ITT Hoffman and served there for 30 years until the plant closed in the 1970's.
Al was a member of the VFW and enjoyed watching sports on television, especially the Indianapolis Colts. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. Al could usually be found doing what he enjoyed most…caring for his yard and raising flowers and vegetables in his garden.
Al deeply loved his family and looked forward to the time they could be together.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Gasper and Penny Taylor; his grandchildren, Michael (Cortney Caldwell) Gasper, Stephen (Dee Anne Dodd) Fletcher, Janice Taylor and Tony (Lisa) Engle; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Knapp as well as his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Al is preceded in passing by his wife, Inez Pauline (Fry) Obermeyer; four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Monday, March 14, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
