Alvis Sears, 90, passed away December 25, 2014 at his Indianapolis residence. The son of Bee F. and Mary F. Hahan Sears, Alvis was born May 29, 1924 in Stab, Kentucky.
Alvis was a member of the First United Evangelical Church in Indianapolis and American Legion Post 64 and the Lavelle-Gossett Post 908 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired as a steelworker from J & L Steel after 23 years and enjoyed being a self-employed painter.
Alvis is survived by sons, William (Arla) Sears and Francis (Robin) Sears, both of Indianapolis; daughters, Janet (Bob) Newhouse of Indianapolis, Joyce Wentworth of Whiteland and Jean (Dylan) Smith of Indianapolis; brother, A.J. Sears; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Rusty. Besides his parents, Alvis was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; son, Allen; brothers, Edward, Harrison, Hollis and Woodrow Sears and sisters, Pauline Strubbe, Faye Price and Kathleen Sears.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. December 30, 2014 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on December 29th. Burial at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
