Alvis L. "Skip" Pettit, 68 of Indianapolis, passed away January 13, 2015. Born December 18, 1946 in Jellico, TN, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Jennie (Taylor) Pettit Veatch. He attended Arsenal Technical High School, and was a veteran of the US Army. He married Diane Richardson on July 15, 1989 in Indianapolis. Skip worked as a Motor Vehicle Dispatcher for the U.S. Postal Service and has a combined total of forty years of government service. He was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, past Commander of VFW Post # 5626, and the 11th District of the VFW, life member of the VFW Children''s Home, American Legion Post #276, Am Vets Post # 99, and a member of United Postal Workers Union Local # 130.
Skip is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Christopher Reed; four daughters, Lisa Reed, Lorinda Reid, Paula Davenport, and Barbara Pettit; two brothers, Terry Pettet and Lawrence Pettet Jr.; six sisters, Alice Joyce, Debora Hicks, Tammie Harvey, Kathy Fisher, Kay Klepinger, and Carol Pettet; eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Tracy Pettit.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South S.R. 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. Visitation is Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
