Anne Margaret Jackomis, 61 of Whiteland, Indiana passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at home.
Anne was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 28, 1963 to Donald and Beverly Stark, who precede her in death. The family lived in Poland, Ohio until a job move caused the family to relocate to Valparaiso, Indiana when Anne was 16. This was a traumatic experience for her, forcing her to leave childhood friends and her beloved town. She graduated from Valpararaiso High School in 1981 but still always considered Poland Seminary High School her true alma mater, and her class of 1981 her family.
After graduation with a degree in English from Ball State University, she worked a variety of jobs with county assessors throughout Indiana, and eventually ended up in Indianapolis, where she worked as computer software support and tester for Meridian Insurance Company, and later for American United Life.
In Indianapolis, Anne met a shy young man, and for some strange reason ended up marrying him on March 15, 1996. Anne and Jerry were happily married for 28 years, even though Jerry made her crazy at times. Part of those crazy times was the birth of twin girls on September 3, 2001. The girls grew up to be strong and independent, just like their mother. Anne always said the greatest thing she ever did was raise two strong girls.
Anne was occasionally loud, sometimes outspoken, very witty and sarcastic. In private, she was a quiet intellectual, who was very well-read and enjoyed poetry and all literature. She was also an avid puzzle solver. She was a proud former member of the Indianapolis Mothers Of Twins Group, and the Indianapolis and Greenwood Chapters of Mothers And More. In addition, she was an animal lover who enjoyed many cats over the years as well as guinea pigs, mice, and a small dog who survives her.
Anne is survived by her husband Gerald (Jerry), daughters Jamie (Spencer) Brown of Coatesville, Indiana, Jordan (fiancée Bryce Gilliam) of Whiteland, Indiana; Brothers Christopher (Nikki) Stark of Eagle River, Wisconsin and Donald (Carrie) Stark of Indianapolis; sister Jayne (Charles) McLoughlin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins scattered throughout the world, the majority of whom she was in frequent contact. In addition, she leaves three grandcats and her dog and constant companion Sparky.
Per Anne's request, there was no service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Redemption Rescue (www.RedemptionRescueInc.com), Perry Township Pantry at PTAC (squinlan@perryschools.org), or the Indianapolis Black Firefighters Association (https://www.indybfa.org/donate).
The family would like to specially thank the following for helping us navigate this difficult time: Chris and Lisa Franklin and family, Brett and Tracy Gilliam and family, the entire Jackomis and Matz families, Jeanne Hamey Morris, and the many friends and neighbors who reached out. In addition, we would like to recognize the Whiteland, Indiana Police and Fire Departments, and the Bargersville EMS, as well as the Chiefs and staff of the Indianapolis Fire Department, and the IFD Academy Recruit Class 90. You are all truly appreciated and loved.
"I sit beside the fire and think
Of all that I have seen
Of meadow flowers and butterflies
In summers that have been
Of yellow leaves and gossamer
In autumns that there were
With morning mist and silver sun
And wind upon my hair
I sit beside the fire and think
Of how the world will be
When winter comes without a spring
That I shall ever see
For still there are so many things
That I have never seen
In every wood in every spring
There is a different green
I sit beside the fire and think
Of people long ago
And people that will see a world
That I shall never know
But all the while I sit and think
Of times there were before
I listen for returning feet
And voices at the door"
-J.R.R. Tolkien
Godspeed and fly high Anne - you are loved and will be missed. The world is a better place thanks to you, and there is a huge hole that will never be completely filled.
