Anne F. (nee Annemaria Kroh)Morse-Hackley, age 89, died on April 26, 2009 in Sarasota, Florida. Born August 10, 1919 in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of Karl and Marie K. (Moehnle) Kroh. Anne emigrated from Bremen, Germany in February 1925 and the port of entry was Ellis Island, NY. She settled in Jersey City, NJ where her father purchased a mom and pop store. Her mother ran the store while her father worked as a machinist in a local factory. Anne graduated from elementary school #7 and went to Dickinson High School for her freshman and sophomore years and then she moved to Freehold, NJ. In June 1937, she graduated from Freehold High School and later attended Asbury Park Business College. She worked for the State of New Jersey Board of Embalmers in Orange, NJ for almost 3 years and had several other jobs, clerical and bookkeeping with Steinbeck Company, Asbury Park, NJ and Driver-Harris company in Harrison, NJ which were mainly temporary due to the Great Depression. After her father died, she moved back to Freehold to be with her mother. Her mother later remarried to Thomas Earl Robinson and moved to Belmar, NJ. Anne moved back with them where she was employed by the War Department at Camp Evans Signal Laboratory, Belmar, NJ in 1942. In 1941 in Belmar, NJ, she met and fell in love with Sgt. John Ford at a USO dance. He later graduated from Officer Candidate School at Ft. Monmouth, NJ and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Signal Corps. They were married in St. Catherine''s Church at Belmar in 1942. He was assigned to the 106 Signal Company, part of the 106th division. She traveled with John during his training in Fort Jackson, S.C. and became pregnant. Unfortunately, the child died shortly after birth. John was in an Embarkation Port at the time but he did get time to visit her before shipping overseas. It was the last time she saw him alive. He was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in 1942. Her stepfather had also died so she returned to Belmar, NJ to be with her mother. While attending the movies with her mother, she saw an announcement asking for volunteers for the Medical Wac''s and she decided this would be her contribution to the War effort. She enlisted in the Women''s Army Corps on March 6, 1945. She was transported to Fort Oglethorpe, GA and was assigned to Co. G, Section 2, 22nd Regiment for Basic and Medical Training. She completed all her training, was promoted to a T/5 (Technician) and was assigned to the 9961st TSU SGO Medical Detachment, Mason General Hospital, Brentwood, LI.NY. This put Anne within a short driving distance to her mother so that she could visit on weekends. The Army discovered Anne''s office experience and she was soon doing paperwork. Her civilian boss resigned and she was promoted to Chief Clerk in the Officer''s Patient Section and promoted to S/Sgt. She remained there until the hospital closed and when she was honorably discharged on December 27, 1946. Anne entered Rider University, Trenton, NJ in 1947 as a business administration student. Her major was finance and she completed in 1 year. She met Roger Morse and they fell in love and were married in 1947 at Belmar, NJ. After completing her freshman year, she withdrew from college thus allowing her husband Roger to complete his studies and graduate in the class of 1950. Roger worked in several locations, Cambridge, Mass., Suffern, NY and McKeesport, PA before finally settling down in Indianapolis, where they lived until 1999. Her two sons were raised and educated in the Indianapolis School system and Anne was active in the PTA''s of the elementary and high school and the County PTA holding several offices until her sons graduated. She enjoyed all her time with these organizations. Anne was also active in her church, Southport Presbyterian Church, teaching Bible classes to the smaller children and also working on several of the committees. When Roger retired in 1987, they moved to Sarasota, FL. In January 1999, Roger died of cancer after 53 years of marriage. During the next 3 years, Anne traveled extensively with her friends from Indianapolis. In January 2002, Anne was reunited with and old college friend of her and Rogers, Don Hackley. Having been good friends for years, Anne and Don got together for old times sake, fell in love and were married on June 8, 2002 Anne is survived by her husband Donald C. Hackley; two sons, Steve Morse of Indianapolis and Gary Morse of Bartlett, TN; her sister June Ensz of Beatrice, NE; 5 grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, John Ford and Roger Morse; brothers, Karl and Herman Kroh. Visitation will be 2pm to 6pm Sunday, May 3rd at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135 Greenwood, Indiana 46143. Service will be at 11:00am Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow service in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
