Archie Joe Morton, 72, of Franklin, passed away October 13, 2014. The son of Archibald J. and Mary L. Bendler Morton, Archie was born November 12, 1941 in Beech Grove, Indiana.
Archie retired in 1995 from the maintenance department with Indianapolis Public Schools. He was a member of the Greenwood Jaycees, joining in 1970, the White River Township Jaycees, Franklin Kiwanis, JCI Senator of the Indiana Senate and a Past President, the Johnson County React, served as a Board member and volunteered with the Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County, was Commander for the Sons of the American Legion Post 205, Toys for Johnson County Kids, active with Community Dinners in Johnson County and on the Thanksgiving Banquet Committee.
Archie is survived by his wife, Shelia M. Bennett Morton of Franklin, whom he married on October 8, 1983 in Greenwood; sons, James J. and Joseph S. Morton, both of Indianapolis; daughters, Cynthia (Mat) Fraley of Indianapolis and Olivia (Randy) Cranford of Peachtree City, GA; stepsons, John J. Bennett of Indianapolis and Andrew K. (Brittany) Bennett of New Palestine; sister, Nancy Phillips of Greenwood; grandchildren, Kirstin and Ally Fraley and Vlad Priest; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Archie was preceded in death by a sister, Sirona A. Morton.
Pastor Peter F. Jessen will officiate at funeral services 1:00 p.m. October 17, 2013 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. October 16, 2014 at the funeral home.
