Age 96, passed away Thursday August 22, 2019.  He was born February 22, 1923 in Parke County, Indiana, the son of Arthur and Emma (LaFue) Thompson.  He was a graduate of Rockville High School.  He married Ruth (Miller) Thompson on October 3, 1942 and they celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Art is survived by his son, Leland (Cynthia), and two daughters, Brenda (Tom) Sand, and Debra (Jim) Niziolek; six grandchildren Gregory Thompson, Erin Hatchett, Amy Neff, Laura Land, Michael Niziolek and Samantha Green; and fifteen great grandchildren.

He was a WW2 Veteran serving in Europe as part of the Army Air Corps 371 ^st Fighter Group and the 404 ^th Fighter Squadron.  Art was retired from Indianapolis Belting Division of Central Supply.  He was a long time ISHAA Football and Basketball Official and officiated the Basketball State finials in 1965 and 1966.  A lifelong member of the Indiana Officials Association, he served as President from 1956-57, and Secretary from 1960-1972.

He served as Deacon at both University Heights Methodist and Lakeland (Florida) United Methodist Churches.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, brother Cloyd Thompson, and two sisters, Virginia Newbold and Geneva Yount.

Visitation will be held Tuesday August 27 ^th from 1:00-3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1977 S. State Rd. 135 Greenwood, Indiana 46143.  Funeral Services will be held Tuesday August 27 ^th at 3:00 PM in the funeral home, burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
