Barbara Lee Apple, Greenwood, IN, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at the age of 85. Barbara was born in Elnora, IN to her parents, Michael Lee Roy and Ruth Taylor. She graduated from Elnora High School, class of 1957 and also the school of nursing in Washington, IN. Barbara married her husband, Max Apple, on September 28, 1958 and together they shared 66 years of marriage until Max passed away on June, 11, 2024.
Barbara spent much of her early career working in the obstetrics department (Labor and Delivery) at St. Francis hospital in Beech Grove, IN, where she loved taking care of the newborns. Her later positions were as a private practice nurse for Dr. Donald Lauer and Dr. Beth Yererlehner. She treasured the personal interactions and many friendships she developed with her patients over the years.
Max and Barbara were active members of Mount Pleasant Christian Church for many years while raising their family in the Center Grove community.
Barbara had a lifelong love of reading and could devour most any book in a day's time. Barbara was also a great cook and enjoyed hosting many memorable gatherings and holiday meals for friends and family. She was known for her love of ice cream, and her favorite outing was an afternoon trip to Ritter's.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Dana Prather, of Martinsville, IN; sons, Troy Apple of Nashville, TN, and Trent Apple of Austin, TX; grandsons, Austin Max Prather of Bloomington, IN and Paul (Shawna) Prather II of Bloomington, IN; great grandchildren, Cole, Eli, and Zoe Prather; sister, Carolyn Jeffries; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Max.
In keeping with Barbara's wishes, there will be no services at this time.
For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, the family suggests that donations be sent to your local food pantry, as Barbara never wanted anyone to be hungry!
