Barbara Jean Atkerson, 85, of Bloomington, formerly of Indianapolis and Brownsburg, passed away February 2, 2014. The daughter of Artie and Margaret Ann Pearson Evans, Barbara was born May 7, 1928 in Indianapolis.

A secretary, she retired from Western Electric Corporation, and later worked for Shared Office Leasing and Adoption Services, Inc. Barbara was a former member of Woodside United Methodist Church, Indianapolis and Calvary United Methodist Church, Brownsburg. Barbara and Jim enjoyed camping, and were active Square Dance Club members for 30 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Atkerson (Jennifer Wilhite) and Jean (Dave) Yount; sister, Janet (Fred) Huffman; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua and Jason Richardson and Lana Atkerson; four great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Atkerson.

Services 12 noon February 7, 2014 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Woodside United Methodist Church - 5411 East 13th Street Indianapolis IN 46219-3003 or charity of your choice.
