Mrs. Barbara Jean (Winstead) Mefford, of Indianapolis, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord in the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born on September 14, 1937, in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, to the late Kinzie and Lizzie (Pittman) Winstead.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara found her greatest joy in caring for her family. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life, and she served Him with all her heart and soul. She was a dedicated member of Shelby Street Pentecostal Lighthouse while living in Indiana and attended Pentecostal churches in Ohio during her time living there.

Barbara is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses: Danny and Patricia Hensley, Darlene and Rick Allgood, Teresa Mefford, Charlene and Andy Gomez, Ronald Mefford, Sandra and Billy Hale, Vernon and Summer Mefford, and John Mefford. She also leaves behind several cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings Wayne Winstead, Georgia Kelly, and Harold and Barbara Winstead.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sylvester Mefford; her dear children, Ellen Mefford and Leamon Mefford; and her siblings Elta, Junior, Helen, Verda, Verlon, Foxy Lee, and Wanda.

Barbara's love, kindness, and unwavering faith touched the lives of many. Her legacy of devotion to family and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 21, 2025 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
