Barbara Rose Bogardus Mendez, 73, of Greenwood, passed away May 19, 2008 at her residence. She was born on March 19, 1935 to Robert and Margaret Cloud Bogardus, both of which preceded her in death. Barbara was a 1953 graduate of St. John''s Academy and went on to work as a budget analyst for the U.S. Govt. at Fort Benjamin Harrison, retiring in 1995. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Joseph Mendez. She was recently able to realize her lifetime dream of being married in the Catholic Church. On Sunday, May 11, 2008, Fr. James Wilmoth officiated the renewal of their wedding vows in the Catholic Church of which Barb and Joe dedicated to their mothers since it was Mothers Day. She is also survived by son, Michael Mendez and a daughter, Connie (Chuck) McLaughlin, also survived by five grandchildren and three great grand children along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved as she did her own children. Her niece, Chris Bogardus was by her side constantly to ease her journey. She will always be remembered for her loving commitment to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Patrick and Mark Mendez, brother Robert John Bogardus II, sister Marjorie Speck and several other family members. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 23, 2008 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. St. Rd. 135, Greenwood, IN. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00PM.
