Mr. Ben L. Braughton, Sr., Whiteland,
passed away on the early evening of Friday, April 22, 2022. He was 70. Ben was
born April 23, 1951 in Beech Grove,
Indiana, a son of the late
Benjamin Franklin and LaFrenda Braughton.
Ben attended Whiteland High School and was a member of the
graduating Class of 1969. He had been employed with Schuster's Block Company
for over 20 years in outside sales then moved on to General Shale until 2008 and
then with Center Grove Community Schools as a driver for eight years before
retiring in 2016. Ben was also a volunteer firefighter with the New Whiteland
Fire Department where he had served as Chief.
Ben was a member of Jubilee
Lodge No. 746, F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat
Shrine. He was also a member of Emmanuel Church – Greenwood where he and his wife served as
greeters. He loved Corvettes which led him to become a member of the Hoosier
Corvette Club.
Ben was am accomplished
woodworker and took great pride and joy in creating Christmas presents for his
grandchildren as well as his friends. He enjoyed working in his yard, listening
to music by the Beach Boys, going fishing and NASCAR. He was a fan of Jimmy
Johnson. Ben was known for his wonderful sense of humor and could always be
counted on to tell a good joke.
Ben was a family devoted man
and loved them all dearly. He will be missed.
Ben Is survived by his loving
wife of nearly 30 years, Theresa K. (Prosser) Braughton; his children, Ben L. (Rae)
Braughton, Jr., John (Janna) Phillips and Justin (Brittany) Phillips; his
grandchildren, Eric, Sophie, Faith, Gavin, Benjamin, Paisley and Charlee; his
brother, John 'Bud' (Bette) Braughton; his sisters-in-law, LeAnn Braughton and Sherry
Braughton as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents,
he is preceded in passing by his first wife, Carol Braughton and his brothers,
Richard Braughton and Jim Braughton.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Forest lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Entombment
will take place at Forest
Lawn Memory
Gardens.
The family will receive
friends from 5:00 until the hour of service Thursday evening at the funeral
home. Jubilee Lodge No. 746 will also conduct a Masonic memorial for Ben
commencing at 7:00 pm.
For those choosing to make a
memorial contribution, the family suggests those be offered in Ben's memory to
the American Heart Association.
