Obituary

Bernardo "Bernie" Jude Beerbower died unexpectedly at home on December 2, 2022. Bernie was loyal to the people that he loved and loved with his whole heart. His smile was his trademark and defined his charismatic personality. On August 2, 2011, despite all of his immediate and critical medical needs, Bernie made his presence known with a loud and proud newborn cry. In the next few months, Bernie found his way home to Heartland Children's Home in Boerne, Texas. While there, he received exceptional care, and was doted upon and deeply loved.

His love for the school bus developed at an early age in Texas with Mr. Swenson. Dawn, Ruth, "Big Mike", and "Old Mike" saw to it that Bernie had every experience and opportunity that a young boy should have while growing up in Texas. He was raised with love, compassion, and determination.

In 2018, he eventually found his way to the Hoosier state with his forever family, Emily and Joshua. Once in Indiana, everyone Bernie met instantly fell in love with him. Joshua knew when he saw Bernie experience the magic of Christmas that his brother was finally home. Bernie's family and friends were so excited to witness and navigate a plethora of firsts with him in Indiana. Bernie caught snowflakes with his tongue, dipped everything in ranch, and layered up for the unpredictable weather changes.

Bernie made so many friends and stole the hearts of everyone he met. He was a dapper young man who appreciated a well-planned outfit. Bernie loved adventure, and never shied away from new experiences. He loved visiting his grandparents in Chicago and traveling internationally and domestically.

In 11 short years, he developed into a well-rounded, kind, and polite young man that was loved by all.

True to his giving spirit, Bernie donated his corneas, heart valves, and other tissue.

He is survived by his numerous parents, Emily Brown-Beerbower, Ruth Schwartz, Michael (Old Mike) Schwartz, Dawn Terrazas, and Michael (Big Mike) Terrazas. He was especially happy to be connected with his birth parents, Esperanza and Bernardo Maldonado prior to his death, as well as his biological siblings Star and Destiny. He was also survived by his brother Joshua, grandparents Nancy and Robert Brown. He was so deeply loved by so many it is impossible to define family.

Bernie is also survived by many medical professionals who loved and cared for him including Dr. Prieto, Dr. Vanderbrink, Dr Skoch "Skochy", Dr. Rosen, Dr. Ulma "Rocky", Dr. Katharina Weber, Lena Riley, RN, Lisa Smith, RN, Megan Rapp, RN, Veronika Elsaesser RN, Vincente "Bubba" Cortes RN, and Susan Mallory RN.

Bernie you will be missed by so many people. We are all lucky to have been a part of your journey, and feel your love.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to The Ronald McDonald House of Cincinnati and Heartland Children's Home.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 3:00PM at the funeral home.
