Mrs. Bertha Mae 'Bertie Mae' (Hoop) Huckleberry, Indianapolis, passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, December 5, 2020. She was 93. Bertie Mae was born May 11, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana a daughter of the late Lena (Feuchter) and Harry Hoop, Sr.

Bertie Mae was a graduate of the Emmerick Manual High School and a member of the '45 Club. She kept busy with part time jobs over the years including Mallory (a shipping company) and Sears. She had also worked with her sister, Betty, at Ed Schocks Toy and Hobby, where she became an avid collector of Madam Alexander dolls and Beanie Babies. She also made several wonderful pieces of macramé. Anything that fun to do, she was all in! Bertie Mae will be remembered as a sweet and kind lady to all that knew and met her.

On April 25, 1947, Bertie Mae married the love of her life, Charles 'Huck' Huckleberry. Bertie Mae and Huck together built their only home in the early 1950's to raise their children and make treasured family memories. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and her dog, Cricket. She also enjoyed camping in Brown County, vacations to Virginia and Florida as well as watching her 'shows'.

She is survived by her children, Dale (Sandy) Huckleberry and Diane Huckleberry; her grandson, Alex (Ally) Huckleberry; a great-granddaughter, Amelia; a sister, Betty (Hoop) Jacks as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing by her siblings, Harry, Kathryne and Helen and a granddaughter, Erica Huckleberry. There was quite a reunion in Heaven when she arrived!

Due to the Covid-19 situation, funeral services will be limited to immediate family and will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the hour of service at the funeral home. We understand if you are unable and choose not to meet with the family during the calling hours due to the current conditions.
