With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Beth Ann Sutor, whose kind and generous spirit touched the lives of many. She found peace on the morning of Monday, June 15, 2026, while surrounded by family. She was 77 years old.

Beth was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on December 18, 1948, a daughter of the late Jerry Hoyt and Betty Vernice (Lawrence) Hunsucker. After graduating from Carmel High School, Beth moved with her family to Terre Haute where she met the love of her life, Jim Sutor. They raised a family together, spending most of their years in Greenwood before retiring to Morgantown.

For over 20 years, Beth was the secretary to the Office of the State Building Commissioner, in the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Away from the office, she discovered her true calling through scouting.

She began her scouting career as a Girl Scout troop leader for both of her daughters, first as a Brownie leader and then four years as a co-leader for Senior Troop 1084.

Side by side, she and her husband Jim dedicated over 25 years of service to the Boy Scout community. Starting off as a Webelos den leader, Beth quickly became a source of knowledge, serving as an instructor, advisor, or chair wherever help was needed. She served as a Committee Member for Troops 621 and 265, and then Scoutmaster for Troop 265. Putting her excellent crafting skills to use, Beth made and maintained the Order of the Arrow Ceremony Team’s regalia. In recognition of her service, she was awarded the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, where her Lenape Indian name was “Grandmother who sews”. Beth was also awarded an Adult Firecrafter of the Orion Ember, and received the Pathfinder District’s Award of Merit in 2004. In 2012, all of her hard work and dedication to others were recognized with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest award that a local council can bestow upon an adult volunteer. This distinction earned her the honor of outranking her husband, a playful rivalry that they both cherished deeply.

Her enduring legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched through her lifelong commitment to scouting.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Jim Sutor; daughters LeeAnn Murat and Sarah (Chris) Hale; son J.R. Sutor; grandchildren Brandon Sutor, Damion Murat, Wyatt Hale, Cecilia Hale, and Daphne Hale; siblings Jeane (Greg) Patterson, Jerri (Craig) Thomas, and Kurt Hunsucker; step-siblings Von Chamberlain and Kristen Chamberlain; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
