Betty Jane Houston, age 89, of Cincinnati, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away September 29, 2016. The daughter of J. Allen and Naomi Jane Lay Barkis, Betty was born July 27, 1927 in Atlantic, Iowa.

She received her Bachelor''s of Music Education and her Master''s of Music Education from Kansas University. In 1989, after 33 years of service, Betty retired as a music teacher from Southport Middle School. She was a member of Southport Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star, Nickerson Chapter #33, Golden Link Court Amaranth, Alpha Delta Kappa and Mu Phi Epsilon. Betty also assisted with the Woodworking Society and enjoyed her time with the RCA Lunch Bunch.

Betty is survived by daughter, Kim Sinclair; grandchildren, Rachel E. and Alexander M. Sinclair. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Houston and son, Mike Houston.

Funeral services 10:30 a.m. October 5, 2016 at Southport Christian Church, where friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Entombment at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
