Obituary

Betty Jean Cox, 89, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025. Born on July 11, 1936 in Public, KY, she was a daughter of the late Ella (Whitaker) and Arthur Mink of Somerset, KY.
In addtion to being a loving wife and mother, Betty was a beautician and cosmetologist for over forty years. During that timeframe, she owned two beauty shops and worked directly from home on three other occasions. She also worked for Mary Kay Cosmetics as a beauty consultant for a number of years.
Betty and her first husband were members of the Lucky Squares Square Dance Club out of Greenwood, IN from 1978 until his passing in 1997. Additionally, they enjoyed RVing and travel. Betty loved to sing and, at any time, you could hear her singing either classic country or gospel. Her favorite was Josh Turner's "I Serve a Savior" album. Her son actually believes she listened through the entire album once 15 times back-to-back. She also loved watching old episodes of Golden Girls, Reba, Big Bang Theory or Everybody Loves Raymond. At any time you could hear her scolding either Blance, Barbara Jean, Sheldon or Doris for something they had done, which always made her son laugh. Her faith and strength always guided her.
She survived through two brain aneurism surgeries, the loss of three husbands, and, later on, her battle with onset dementia and heart failure. She loved to tell people that she had read her bible through 11 times. Even though she was a Baptist girl most of her life, after moving to South Carolina, she found comfort at Peace Presbyterian Church in Goose Creek, SC where she was a member from 2015 until her passing.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Willard "Bud" Mize (married 1955-1997) passed 1997, Nathaniel B. Graves (married 1999-2001) passed 2001 and Phillip E. Cox (married 2002-2012) passed 2012; her sisters, Ruby Mink, Somerset, KY, 1935-1935 and Shirly (Mink) Harris, Somerset, KY, 1938-2025.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Mize (Donald Deland) of Goose Creek, SC; sister, Wilda (Mink) Poff of Ocala, FL,; sister, Barbara (Mink) Burdine, of Plainfield, IN; brother, Don Mink (Connie Mink) of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Margie (Mink) Flatt of Somerset, KY; brother, Maurice Mink of Somerset, KY; brother, Conley Mink of Somerset, KY; brother, Dennis Mink of Somerset, KY as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her grandpets, Ruby and Zoomie.
