Betty Jean DeFur passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at her residence in Seminole, Florida. She was born to the late Claude and Lillian Rusk Perkinson
Betty grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from T. C. Howe High School in 1947. She married Ivan Earl DeFur on September 10, 1949. Ivan and Betty raised a family on the east side of Indianapolis. Betty worked as an office manager for Dr. Patrick Logan for many years
forming long-lasting friendships with the staff.
Yearly vacations were spent at Bass Lake in Minnesota and the Suncoast beaches of Florida. Betty and Ivan traveled to many places and found another hometown in Seminole, Florida after retirement. Ivan and Betty were proud to say they were married for 61 years.
She loved her family, friends, and neighbors and could throw a great party! She loved celebrating, cooking for others, doing crafts, and playing games. Betty was a beloved Girl Scout leader for over 10 years. Her euchre and dominoes friends were such a blessing in her later
years.
Betty is survived by her children, Nancy Buckles of Wingate, Indiana, Jim (Ilsa Sanchez) DeFur of Seminole, Florida, and Cynthia (Jeffrey) McCreary of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was blessed with her grandchildren, Kimarie, Chad, Melina, Emily, Jake, Connor, and Max. Betty loved her seven great-grandchildren, Arianna, Drew, Bryant, Emilia, Griffin, Patrick, and Evelyn. Betty and Ivan had very special relationships with her nieces, Kathy and Sandy. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, step-brother Kenny Rusk, step-sister, Isabella Spellman, sister, Joann Foltin, and son-in-law, Steve Buckles.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, August 18 at Central Christian Church in St. Petersburg. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana on Monday, August 21 with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. The committal service will take place immediately after the visitation.
