Obituary

Betty Heldman Hume, 81, of Indianapolis, found peace in heaven on November 18, 2012. She was born August 19, 1931 to Michael and Anna (Marks) Heldman in Jasper, Indiana.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Betty found life's greatest joy in raising her children and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was a devout Catholic who grew up attending St. Joseph in Jasper and was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Indianapolis; Greenwood American Legion Post #252 Ladies Auxiliary and served as a Pink Lady at the former University Heights Hospital. As a grandmother, she loved being a babysitter to her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Dennis and Sylvester Heldman. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Douglas Hume of Indianapolis and children, Mary (Ralph) Utt of Greenwood, Pamela (Dave) Hume-Engle of Indianapolis, Fay (Chris) Etter of Greenwood and Mark Hume of Indianapolis. She also leaves behind grandchildren Paula Hall, Stephanie Rife, Katie Burrell, Dillon Etter, Julie Engle and Dexter Etter, as well as great-grandchildren Kevin, Joseph, Clayton, Kasey, Wyatt and Elliott.

Services 1:00 p.m. November 21, 2012 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to service time. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
