Obituary

Betty June (Amick) Johnson, 85, passed away Tuesday, December 2, at Johnson Memorial Hospital. She was born July 16, 1923 in Indianapolis, IN. Betty and her husband Robert "Bob" were married on February 16, 1940 and were happily married for sixty-eight years. She was the first woman auctioneer in Indiana. Betty helped serve our country during the WWII by working at Allison's ball bearings factory. She would tell a story about how she helped catch a spy who was trying to sabotage the ball bearings. Betty held several jobs over the years, but enjoyed the most success as a self-employed auctioneer. She was a member of the Waverly O.E.S. Betty, with her husband, built two houses and every other building on their property with their own hands. Betty opened her home to her sister's children; Judy (Board, Erp) Nicholson, Pat (Board) Mattingly, and Rob Board; after the sister passed in 1967, later Pat and her son Bryan and daughter-in-law, Kim, would return the favor and help to take care of Aunt Betty and Uncle Bob. When Betty and Bob were in their early 70's they took trips with their niece Judy and her late husband Lonnie Erp. In the last four years of her life what made her the happiest was her great-great nephew, Harrison Mattingly. She is survived by her husband, Robert Benjamin Johnson; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; Roy and Lydia Amick; her sister, Ella Mae Board; three brothers, Joseph, Lester, and Harry Amick. Calling will be held Monday, December 8, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. St. Rd. 135, Greenwood, IN. 46143, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Services will be held at 12:00 pm following the calling.
