Bobby Hays of Camby, Indiana passed away on August 14, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. He was 90. Bobby was born on October 12, 1931 in Tompkinsville, Kentucky to the late Hamp and Vada (Carter) Hays. He graduated from Gamaliel High School in 1949.
Bobby moved to Indianapolis in 1952 where he found a job at Fairmont Glass Company. After leaving Fairmont, he went to work at Ford Motor Company where he retired in 1997.
He enjoyed working with his hands and he was exceptional at it. He helped with the construction of one of his homes and the remodeling of another. He loved using his talent to build special gifts for his children and grandchildren. Bobby enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, camping, and taking walks with his dogs. He never missed a chance to give his dogs a gentle pat or two and sing their praises. Rarely, did you ever see him without his dog nearby.
Bobby is survived by his dedicated wife of 34 years, Martha Hays; 8 children, Brenda (Chuck) Long, Glenda (Rick) Bitzer, Joe Hays and Jason Hays, Shan Griffith, Sheila Curry, Jeffrey Curry & Johnny Curry. Bobby had 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and his furry companion, Buddy.
Bobby is preceded in passing by his parents, four sisters, Jessie Russell, Lou Emma Turner, Ruth Poland and Runell Tibbs; one brother Bedford Hays; two grandsons, Mark Cherry and Joey Curry as well as his beloved dog, Katie.
His gentle demeanor, kind spirit, and ability to always make people laugh with a good joke will be missed each and every day forward.  Bobby touched everyone around him and made them feel special and appreciated.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be 12:00 pm, Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
