Obituary

Carolyn Gayle “Carol” Wood, Irvington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. She was 75 years old. Carol was born in Oneida, KY to her parents Leslie E. Ross and Geneva Gossett. She graduated from Howe High School, class of 1969. Carol was dedicated to maintaining lifelong relationships with the friends she made during her time at Howe High School, and she thoroughly cherished all her friendships throughout her life.

Carol was a licensed real estate agent and broker and opened her own business, Irvington Realty, which she operated for over forty years. She was a fierce businesswoman and thrived in the industry due to her natural outgoing nature and hardworking personality. Through her business, Carol became a pillar of the Irvington community and seldom knew a stranger amongst them. She was involved in the charity group that operated the Red Box donations; Carol was one of the first members of the community to contribute to the charity to help feed those less fortunate. Carol was known to have a generous and loving heart; she would pass out warm clothing to the homeless and help get them off the street during harsh conditions. Carol was a lifelong woman of strong faith and briefly attended regularly at a Presbyterian church. She was also a member of a musical group that practiced and performed using the Appalachian instrument, the dulcimer. Carol enjoyed reading, dancing, and gardening in her free time; she had a fabulous green thumb and loved anything to do with flowers. She was also an animal lover and raised several beloved fur babies over the course of her life. Carol will be remembered for her cheeky sense of humor and loyal spirit. Carol will be dearly missed and forever cherished by those she leaves behind.

Carol is survived by her sisters, Lois (Robert Vastine) Ross, and Betty (Mike) Wampner; her honorary sister, Linda Robertson; her special aunt Thelma “Aunt Tim” and several other beloved aunts and uncles; her several nieces and nephews; her fur babies, William and Kate.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; her special niece, Lisa Ann Hart.

Carol will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
