Carolyn L. Nitschke, age 77 of Greenwood, passed away peacefully in her home on May 1st, 2018 surrounded by her beloved family.  She will be greatly missed by the many people who love her.  Carolyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she always said that her family was her greatest accomplishment in her life. She was a strong woman of faith that she has also passed on to her children.  Carolyn retired from Macy's in 2012 so she was able to spend more time doing the things she enjoyed, like spending time around her pool, playing cards and gathering with friends and family.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 38 years, Duane Nitschke; children, Cynthia (Don) Hughett, Victoria (Gary) Goins, Robert (Jenny) Clancy, Bill and Brian Nitschke, 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by parents, Orville Smith and Lena Deethardt, Brother Orville (Sonny) Smith.

Visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2018 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home in Greenwood from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.  Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 in St. Barnabas Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.  Visit www.forestlawncemetery-fh.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the guest registry.
