Carolyn Sue Phipps, 85 of Indianapolis, passed away July 20, 2019 at home surrounded by loved ones.  The daughter of Hobart Skelton and Lucille Anderson was born August 30, 1933 in Princeton, Indiana.

She spent her elementary through high school years residing at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home.  She served on the Alumni Board as secretary for decades.  Her lifetime passion was people; she devoted endless time to helping those in need.  Among her other passions was Genealogy.  Leading her to become an expert in the field, this work also helped her discover her relation to Red Skelton as 4 ^th cousin.  This sparked her interest in clowning.  She became "Whoozit" the clown, enjoying marching in parades: such as the Vincennes Annual Red Skelton Festival and visiting nursing homes.  A volunteer for hospice of Jennings county for over 20 years, she will be remembered by her compassion, caring, and commitment to those in need.  As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saint she served in many capacities including compassionate service coordinator, librarian, nursery, primary, and Sunday school teacher, choir member, relief society, and visiting teacher.  She  lived by the Golden Rule and love thy neighbor.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Ronald Emmons Phipps.  She is survived by her children Kathy (Tim) Haines, Ron W. Phipps, Lori Rice, and Immanuel (Kellie Purdy) Phipps; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son-in-law Charles Rice IV; and siblings Fred Skelton and Charlotte Lambert.

Carolyn "Phipps" had the natural gift of developing instant connections with people, she was so loved and will be dearly missed by many…many.

Visitation will be held Wednesday July 24 ^th from 11:00 am -12: pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1977 S. State Rd 135 Greenwood, IN.  Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm in the funeral home.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, IN

In lieu of flowers Carolyn's desire was to have memorial contributions made to Hospice of Jennings County or to a local Hospice.
