Carolyn L. Smith, 76, of Danville, IN passed away March 13, 2018. She was born September 25, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN and was adopted by her parents, Robert and Viva Rippy.
Carolyn was a loving mother and grandmother who would support her children's dreams. She was beautiful and smart, graduating from George Washington High School as Salutatorian. She was a spontaneous, social person and was always up for a debate. Carolyn played the violin, enjoyed country music, sitting on the porch and talking, and was strong in her faith. She helped co-adopt her granddaughter, Sophia, and along with her daughter, Cara. They were the first 2 women to adopt a child and set a precedence in the state of Indiana. She was very involved in Al-Anon and Al-Ateen organizations; helping to found Al-Ateen in Aruba. She worked for a title company and was involved in real estate, she retired from GM where she helped develop the Wang computer system.
Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Cindy Powers, Cara Smith, Sarah Smith, and Lealynn Martin; brother, Kerry (Wanda) Clevenger and grandchildren, Sophia Smith, Timothy Powers, and Grace Bush.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to The Gathering Together, 147 N. Center St., Plainfield, IN 46168.
