Obituary

Charles "Chuck" R. Benninghoff, 78, of Fountaintown, Indiana passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020 in Indianapolis.  Chuck was born in Indianapolis on February 1, 1942 to Lloyd and Erma (Russell) Benninghoff.

Chuck graduated from Warren High School in 1960.  He married his loving wife, Jan, and for 51 years they enjoyed their time together.  He was a long haul truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 135.  He began his driving career in 1969 with Farm Bureau Co-op and then with Firestone, completing his career of more than 30 years with Roadway.  He racked up more than 4 million miles traveling back and forth across the country.  When Chuck was not on the road, he enjoyed working on his beloved '54 Ford sedan.  He was always making improvements and taking her to local car shows.

Chuck was a jovial man who loved to cut up and make people laugh and he had a giving heart. He loved to "push snow" and would go around the neighborhood and plow everyone's driveway in the winter.  Chuck was a family man and spent as much time as he could with his kids and grandkids.  He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Jan; children, Chris (Kelly) Harris, Michelle Benninghoff, and Terry (Jennifer) Benninghoff; grandchildren, Chad, Matthew and Rachael Harris, Cody and Tyce Gilpin, Gabrielle Benninghoff and Madeline Benninghoff; four great grandchildren; sister, Earlene Bechtel; sister-in-law, Jeanne Jenkins and her children, Julie, Jeff and Tania and their son Jace; and brother-in-law, Randy Jenkins.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brothers, John Gilmer, Jr., and Rodney Benninghoff; and brother-in-law, Jerry Jenkins.

Family will receive friends Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143.  Funeral service will be Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11 a.m., also at Forest Lawn.
