Charles Lee Boone, 86, of Greenwood, passed away on March 9, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Betty Marshall. He was the son of Earnie and Alma Luck Boone. Mr. Boone graduated from Emmerich Manual Highschool, and the following September joined the United States Marine Corps, serving three years from 1954 through 1957, and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He had been attached to an amphibious unit, spending much of his enlistment on the water. During his boot camp training, his sharp shooting ability earned him a place on that year's National Marine Corps rifle team.
Mr. Boone was an accomplished woodworker, designing and building furniture for his home, including a grandfather clock that still sounds the hours. At the urging of a friend already in the field, he became a self taught electrician, and evolved from woodworking into commercial construction.
In addition to his wife Mr. Boone is survived by two sons, Randal (Fay) and John (Paula) Boone, a daughter, Lori (Ron) Snider, a sister, Marie (Fred) Thompson, seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson, Charles Ryan Boone and a granddaughter, Crystal Lynn Boone.
In accordance with Mr. Boone's wishes, no services are planned at this time. Later in the spring a memorial celebration of his life will take place on a yet to be determined date and venue.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charities of personal choice.
