Charles Curtis Burgess (Charlie), 87 of Indianapolis, Indiana left his earthly body on January 11, 2021 and entered the presence of his Lord and Savior.

He was born to the late Millard Burgess and Bertie (Story) Burgess in Byrdstown, Tennessee on March 27th, 1933. Charlie was married for 59 years to the late Beverley Burgess who was the love of his life.

Charlie is survived by his children Brian (Jennifer) Burgess of Fishers and Andrea (Sean) Haines of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Kyle (Chialisia) Haines, Caleb Burgess, Stephanie Haines, Delaney Burgess, Olivia Burgess and Tyler Haines; one great granddaughter Trinity Haines; sister Sharon (Larry) Roberts and brother Jeff Sells. He also left behind several nieces, nephews and special friends that were very dear to him.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend who lived with incredible integrity and character that we all could learn from. He had a personal relationship with Jesus that was very important to him. He truly practiced living in a way so that others who knew him would see God's love in the way he treated them.

Charlie worked as an executive at Blocks for most of his career. After his time at Blocks ended he moved on to being a realtor at Carpenter followed by managing several office buildings. He was a very entrepreneurial man who always had a business idea rolling around in his mind. He loved to communicate with people and ultimately found his passion to communicate through his writing. Charlie learned through his spare time that he not only enjoyed writing but had a remarkable talent for telling stories which ultimately led him to publish 3 books titled A Tree Named Jacob, Come, Sit a Spell and Henry the Ate. He was enthralled with writing and also enjoyed writing several other short stories in addition to the books. It was a passion of his until his Parkinson's halted that joy, but he didn't let that stop him, he decided to start creating beautiful and sometimes very intricate clay pieces that would often tell a story on their own. He passed these special pieces of art on to several family members, doctors, neighbors, coworkers and anyone he felt would enjoy it. Charlie loved to tell stories and that will be something that those who loved and knew him well will miss the most.

He was a member of Southport United Methodist Church.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens where a private ceremony will take place due to COVID restrictions.
