Charles R. Cress, age 78, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013 with his family at his side. He was born January 23, 1935 in Indianapolis to Charles O. and Lila A. (Schneider) Cress.

He was a graduate of Ben Davis High School with the Class of 1935. Charles was a U.S.M.C. veteran and served on the Indianapolis Police Department for 20 years achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and loved to do woodworking. He was a member of American Legion Post # 252 and the Retired Police Officers Association.

He married the former Ramona J. Francis and she preceded him in death on January 19, 2012. He is survived by his sons, Steven (Lisa) and Ron (Nancy) Cress; brothers, Phillip and Dennis (Helen) Cress; grandchildren, Stephanie and Matthew Cress; great grandchild, Graham Bates. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother, David Cress.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Police Athletic League or American Diabetes Association.
