Obituary

Mr. Charles Henry “Charlie” Boxman, of Greenwood, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on the late morning of Thursday, July 9, 2026, having attained the age of 95 years.

Charlie was born on March 17, 1931, in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of the late Henry F. and Hattie B. Boxman. He graduated from Bloomington High School before continuing his education at Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry.

Following his education, Charlie proudly and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Upon completing his military service, he began a distinguished career as a chemist with Eli Lilly and Company and earned the respect of his colleagues before retiring in 1996 after many years of service.

A man of deep faith, Charley was a devoted member of Southport Church of the Nazarene. His generous spirit was evident throughout his life as he faithfully supported numerous charitable organizations, including the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indiana University Foundation, and his beloved church. He believed in giving back and quietly made a lasting impact on causes that enriched the lives of others.

Charlie was also an enthusiastic supporter of Indiana University athletics, proudly holding season tickets for both football and basketball for several decades. He enjoyed spending time on the bowling lanes and participated in various bowling leagues throughout the years, forming many lasting friendships through the sport.

Above all, Charlie treasured the love and companionship of his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Louise (Ridenour) Boxman, along with several cherished extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Charlie is preceded in death by his sister, Jane Ann Kalb.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Southport Church of the Nazarene, 920 E. Southport Road, Indianapolis, with Pastor Tim Lanigan officiating. Friends are invited to visit one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

Charlie will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a devoted husband, a proud veteran, a dedicated scientist, and a generous friend whose quiet kindness and unwavering commitment to his faith, family, and community will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
