Mr. Charles Donald 'Charlie'
Jenkins, Indianapolis,
passed away on the early morning of Monday, May 9, 2022. He was 97. Charlie was
born October 7, 1924 in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, a son of the late
Elmer Leslie and Ruth May (Meyer) Jenkins, Sr.
Charlie was proud veteran,
having honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during
World War II. He learned the craft of an airplane mechanic which carried over
to a long career as an automobile mechanic. He had been employed at the Smart
and Perry Ford dealership in Indianapolis
which later became Ray Skillman Ford. He served there for an amazing 45+ years
and retired in January of 1987.
Charlie was a member of Faith Baptist
Church in Greenwood as well as the VFW. He was an avid
reader and enjoyed anything concerning the Civil War. He was a sports
enthusiast and especially liked the Cincinnati Reds and Indianapolis Colts. He
bowled for many years with teams from Ford and eventually gave it up at the age
of 87. He spent much of his leisure time fishing with the grandchildren,
woodworking and gardening…tilling his own ground until recent years. Charlie
dearly loved his family and his dogs and cherished the time they could spend
together.
Charlie is survived by his
loving wife of 73 years, Irma Lois (Hammersley) Jenkins; his children, Rebecca
(James) Fuson, Linda (Daniel) Dubak and Karen (partner: Paul Wheeler) Jenkins;
His grandchildren, Daniel (Terri) Dubak, James Fuson, Aaron (Jennifer) Dubak
and Julie (Alex) Fred; 15 grandchildren; and his sisters, Ruth Prickett and
Joyce (Bud) Smock as well as several nieces and nephews.

he is preceded in passing by his grandson, Charles Donald Dubac and his
siblings, Elmer Jenkins, Jr. and Betty Larrison.
