Charles "Chuck"
Shelby Capps
May 20, 1951 — Jul 28, 2020
Indianapolis
Charles "Chuck" Shelby Capps, Jr., 69, of Indianapolis passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020. He was born May 20, 1951 in Indianapolis to Charles Shelby and Mary C. Capps, Sr.
Chuck grew up in Indianapolis and entered the Marine Corps in 1969, and was honorably discharged after learning of a medical condition which prevented him from serving. He married his high school sweetheart, Vallerie Ragean Elmore on March 28, 1970 and together they had five children, and raised multiple foster children. Chuck was a truck driver with a strong work ethic and worked hard to support his family, and made sure he was home every evening for family dinners and weekends. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles and spending time with his wife, daughter, son, and friends on rides together. Chuck and Vallerie were foster parents, and the parents that all the kids in the neighborhood loved to be with. He would do silly dances when the grandkids were around just to embarrass them and have fun. Vallerie was always first in his life and he made sure she was well taken care of. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by many.
Chuck will be remembered by his wife of 50 years, Vallerie; children, Charles "Chuck" (Karen Key) Capps, Jennifer (Patrick Dutton) Arney, Marigene (Tim Polston) Capps; and Jonathan (Heather) Capps, grandchildren, Samantha, Michael, Zachary, Marissa, Rageana, Anthony, Shelby, Elijah, and Evalynn; great grandchildren, Ryder, Lukas, Delilah, Stella and Russell; Siblings, Shelly Ann Gorden, Gina Capps Mcgowan, Jimmy (Sharon McQueen) Capps, David (Lisa) Capps; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Brian William Capps.
Family will receive friends Friday, July 31 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 1 at 11:00am, officiated by Pastor Joel Stevens, also at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
