Obituary

Charles Robert Smith, Sr., 90, of Greenwood passed away Monday, July 6, 2020.  He was born February 28, 1930 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to George, Sr. and Vivian Smith.

Charles graduated from high school and went on to proudly serve in the US Army during the Korean War.  He married his true love, Bonnie Louise Baker on June 13, 1952 and together they raised seven children.  Charles was a jack of all trades; he was employed by Magnode as a supervisor and fabricator, but was also a skilled woodworker.  He was a very giving man, taking in the neighborhood children for dinners, providing for those less fortunate during the holidays with Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas gifts.  Above all, Charles loved his family.  He taught his boys how to fix cars, or to install siding, and inspired 2 of his grandsons to join the military.  Charles was most proud of his great grandchildren.  He would light up a room with his smile when the babies came to visit.  Charles was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Charles is survived by his children, Bryan (Lisa) Smith, Andy Smith, William (Mikki) Smith, Charles (Michelle) Smith, Jr., Karen Cunningham, Susan (Donald) Lamey, and Heather Gorman; thirteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie.
