Charles D. Stanley, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 in Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South, Greenwood. The son of Charles D. Stanley and Hedda M. Coeburn Stanley Bright, Charles was born Monday, December 7, 1925 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

A tool & die maker, Charles worked 25 years for Ford Motor Company, Indianapolis, retiring in 1998. He also owned and operated Emerson Tool & Die in Indianapolis for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, receiving the Purple Heart, American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the WW II Victory Medal. He was a gun collector and avid photographer.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to service time. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Deborah L. Stanley of Greenwood; son Charles D. (Karen) Stanley, Jr. of Bargersville; grandchildren, Shane (Patricia Patterson) Stanley of Beech Grove, Chuck Stanley of Whiteland and Mary M. Stanley of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Mariska Stanley and Amerrele, Dayton and Avery Whitaker; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret (Sturgill) Stanley, whom he married on Tuesday, March 15, 1949 in Heartland, Kentucky and daughter, Sandra Faye Stanley.
