Charles Eugene Underwood, 82, of Indianapolis passed away on February 3, 2022 at the Roudebush Veterans Administration Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Susanna (Monninger) Underwood. He is survived by his wife Jeanne (Krodel); daughter, Julie (Ed) Murphy; son, David (Dollie) Underwood; sisters: Susanna (John) Johnson, Clara (Edwin) Board; cousin, Jan Freeman; grandchildren: Clayton and Samuel Underwood, Daniel Murphy and Elizabeth Marsh; three great grandchildren.


Charles was born on March 21, 1939 in Harrisburg, Illinois and grew up in Indianapolis where he graduated from Shortridge High School. He joined the Army and rose to the rank of E-4 Specialist.
Charles and Jeanne lived and raised their 2 children in the Southport area of Indianapolis. While working, Charles earned his Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees from Indiana Central (now University of Indianapolis). Charles worked at and retired from Sanders Office Supply.


Charles was a people person with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed speaking to and getting to know people. He fostered a good work ethic and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
