Mrs. Charlotte Bernadine Allen, Indianapolis, passed away on the late evening of Friday, May 12, 2023. She was 82. Charlotte was born August 12, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of the late James Paschal and Eva Agnes (Butler) Hughey.
Charlotte attended local Catholic schools and had been employed with RCA and then with Naval Avionics from where she retired in 1972.
Charlotte enjoyed reading her Bible, working word search puzzles and traveling with her family on vacations. She was an outgoing lady who knew no strangers and had a kind and giving heart. She deeply loved and cared for her family, especially her grandchildren and was immensely proud of her two sons.
Charlotte was a member of Deliverance Temple where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She loved her church and church family.
Charlotte is survived by her sons, Darryl (Louise) Allen and Dean (Laura) Allen; her 12 grandchildren, Brice (Jessica), Rachel (Ryan), Andy (Tina), Josh (Cindy), Justin (Crystal), Lindsay (Chris), Mellisa, Abbey (Mike), Gabe, Kaitlin, Victor (Kim) and Darryl Jr. (Brittany); 17 great-grandchildren as well as two great-great-grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her husband, Robert W. Allen, to whom she was married to for over 25 years as well as her siblings, Jimmy Hughey, Johnny Hughey, Betty Jones, Roni Darling and Charles 'Butch' Hughey.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at both Greenwood Health and Living Community and Heart-to-Heart Hospice for the wonderful care given to their mother during her illness. Their kindness will not be forgotten. They loved her and she loved them.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Friday, May 19, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
