Chestalene (Chet) Whitaker, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025. She was 96 years old.

Chestalene was born December 27, 1928 in Albany, KY to the late Jason & Deffie Davidson Russell. She married Harold L. Whitaker on March 16, 1958 in Indianapolis, IN. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2001. Chet worked for Western Electric in Indianapolis, retiring on April 3, 1982 after 30 years of service. She was a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church of Somerset. She loved her church and church friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing by one brother, Ozie Lee Russell; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis (Turp) Whitaker, Gene Brown, Harry (Louise) Toon, Joanna Whitaker, Clyde Whitaker, Jr., Ruther Whitaker and Hazel McDonald.

She is survived by a sister, Burnidean Whitaker and Norma Paxton; two brothers, Jerry Lee & (Linda) Russell and Charles B. Russell; a sister-in-law, Vera Brown; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Whitaker as well as several nieces and nephews in Kentucky and Indiana, whom she loved dearly.

We will honor her wishes in having no public viewing or funeral. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the mausoleum Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
