Christy Anne Montgomery passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, with family at her side. At two years old, her grandson George, first called her Grandma Jewel. The name stuck—sweet, simple, and full of love. From then on, every grandchild, whether born before or after, all lovingly called her Grandma Jewel. It was more than a name; it was who she was to all of them—precious, shining, and deeply loved.
Christy was born on January 9, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan. Christy spent many years working in restaurants. She later spent 22 years as a dedicated meat wrapper at Jewel Osco in DeKalb, Illinois.
Christy was always up for a game of cards—Phase 10, Rummy or Spades, and somehow made room for everyone who wanted to join. "There's always room for one more," Christy would say with a grin. She had a special place in her heart for what she playfully called "meat candy"—bacon, of course.
She is survived by her daughters, Gerri Harper and Sharon McIntyre (George); grandchildren Jayson Gaul (Kimberly), Jennifer Harder-Lutes (Chris), Michelle Hutchinson (Jerod), George McIntyre (Cassie), and Paul McIntyre; and great-grandchildren Preston Gaul; Dallas, Brycen, and Paislee Harder; Gavin and Zoey Hutchinson; and Maeve McIntyre. Christy is also remembered by her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sweet infant great granddaughter, Novalee Belle Gaul.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Christy in your own joyful way:
Treat someone to some "meat candy,"
Invite a neighbor over for cards,
Make room at your table for one more,
Or simply share a story and a smile in her memory.
