Obituary

Claire W. Long, retired teacher and world traveler, passed away Friday, October 15, at age 84. Claire taught at Center Grove H.S. and was a Media Center Director at Decatur Central Middle School. Her career spanned 35 years. She was a graduate of Butler University with BA and MA degrees. Claire traveled to all 50 states and 20 countries, including Australia, Central America, Russia, China, Mongolia, the Artic Circle, the Caribbean, New Zealand, most of Europe, and Midway Island. Claire was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Order of the Eastern Star, DAR, Mayflower Society, and the Episcopal Church. She was preceeded in death by two husbands; Pau;l Hurst, and John Long; one son, Tom Gaddy. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Gaddy, Gregory Hurst (Nancy), and Jennifer Beller (Charles) and her step-children, Robert D. Long (Joy) and Sue Cardwell (Don). She also has a surviving sister, Patricia Blackmun, and three brothers, Tom, Bill, and Ron Woodward. Visitation and service will be at St. Timothy''s Episcopal Church, 2601 E. Thompson Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46227 on Wednesday October 20, 2010, Visitation will be from 5-7 pm with the service immediately following at 7. Private burial on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Indiana Division or scholarship funds at Butler University.
