Connie
Sargeant
Mar 10, 1942 — Jan 20, 2020
Connie J. (McKimmy) Sargeant, 77, of Indianapolis passed away in her home surrounded by her family Monday evening, January 20, 2020. She was born March 10, 1942 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Jack and Anna (Harris) McKimmy.
Connie worked for many years as a bookkeeper while raising her daughters. In 1986 she married her love, Jack Sargeant. Connie enjoyed reading, especially J.D. Robb mysteries, watching the Hallmark movie channel, and playing with her little Daschund, Harley. She spent hours in her garden tending to her flowers; spring being her favorite time with the lilacs in bloom. She loved her family dearly and always made holidays special for everyone. She was a wonderful cook and each Christmas there would be Chicken Tetrazzini for everyone to share in the afternoon. She never shared her recipe until just a few years ago.
Connie always had a positive attitude, no matter the situation she was always able to put herself in perspective of those around her. When she had to spend the holidays in the hospital, she was aware that there were others that may not be as well off as she. She always looked for the good in every situation. She was a fighter. Connie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and went to battling it right away. She fought bravely for seven years until her body could fight no more. Connie is loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
Connie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jack; daughters, Debbie Schafer, Cathy (Jaime) Rogers, and Anita (Dave) Shildmyer; brothers, Michael and Rick; grandchildren, Sarah, Jimmy, Jordan, Kyle and Collin; great-grandchildren, Brady and Holly; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Connie is preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara, Dora and Sarah.
Family will receive friends Saturday, January 25 from 2-4 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. SR 135, Greenwood, IN 46143, with service to follow at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: IndyHumane, 7929 N Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268 or: St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
