Obituary
Dalene Ann Davis (88) of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Dalene was a loving and caring individual, guided by a personal and enduring Christian faith. She was born in Indianapolis, IN to her parents Joseph H. and Dortha Mills.
Dalene was from a family of entertainers and enjoyed performing in shows with her family.She played several instruments including the standing bass, trombone, saxophone and organ. She was a class of 1956 graduate of Howe High School in Indianapolis. Dalene worked multiple office jobs in various fields, in addition to being a homemaker, throughout her life.
Dalene was a devoted mother and enjoyed being involved in her children’s lives. She served as her daughters’ Girl Scout troop leader for many years. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, bowling and collecting Wizard of Oz memorabilia. She will be remembered for her bubbly personality, quick-witted humor and overall giving and loving nature. Dalene will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her children, Candi (Rusty) Scrougham, Tina (Sylvester) Davis-Smith,Bryan (Lisa) Davis and Lisa (Dan) Davis-English; her grandchildren, Chanda Taylor, Michelle Perry, Kadjah Colemen, Breanna Caplinger, Brooke Davis-Melton and Jasmine English; her great grandchildren, Kaylinn Norris, Alicin Perry, Ariel Rosa Artis, Shelby Scrougham, London Harris, Ella Caplinger, Deegan Caplinger and Bishop Melton; her great-great granddaughter, Bronwynn Norris and her nephew, Barry Hunt.
Dalene was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Candace Scrougham, and her sister, Garnett Hunt.
In keeping with her wishes, no public services will be held. Cremation will take place and Dalene’s ashes will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, IN during a private family service.
