Damel "Melly" Carr Wilson, 42, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Damel was born on March 3, 1981 in Indianapolis, IN to Robert Wilson and Ella Relford. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Phillip "Hard Rock" Relford. He attended Wayne Township schools his entire childhood and graduated from Ben Davis High School in 2000.
Shortly after graduating high school, Damel became a father. He and Sonja Napier welcomed Olivia Wilson into the world in 2001. Later, in 2007, they welcomed their second child, Mariah Wilson. Damel was inspired by fatherhood and worked hard to provide for his family.
Damel was a lifelong resident of Indy's West side. He could make conversation with anyone and over the years Damel established relationships with many people. He is best known for his genuine, "straight-up" personality. Damel owned and operated Home Run Investments, LLC since 2010. He was a man of faith and current member of Bethel Family Worship Center. Damel was a long-standing fan of sports, specifically a big fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers. From a very early age he played organized baseball, football, and basketball. He was a varsity baseball player for Ben Davis High School. He loved to celebrate life in the presence of his family and friends. Damel loved spending time with his daughters, attending sporting events, going to the movies, managing his stock portfolio, and listening to music. He had a goofy personality that lit up any room he walked into. He was extremely accomplished and respected in his community. His positive energy and fun-oriented nature will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind. Damel was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. But perhaps his favorite titles were "Dad" and soon-to-be "Pawpaw."
Damel is survived by his children, Olivia (Thomas) Garwood and Mariah Wilson, his on the way grandchild, his mother, Ella Relford, his several siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, his grandmother, Shirley Relford, his best friends, Jeremy Chandler and Charles "Chucky" Burney, his dog, Sadie Mae, and several other lifelong friends.
Damel is preceded in death by his stepfather, Phillip Relford and his beloved dog, Zoey Lynn.
A visitation for Damel will be held on January 19, 2024 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a funeral service to follow on January 19, 2024 at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 12:00 pm.
