Obituary

Mr. Damon P. Cloud, Jr., of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in the late evening of Sunday, October 19, 2025. He was 77 years old.

Damon was born January 20, 1948, in Ages, Kentucky, a son of the late Damon P. and Geneva (Sergent) Cloud. After moving with his family from Kentucky to Indiana, Damon attended Thomas Carr Howe High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1966. Following his education, he honorably served his country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict — a period that deeply shaped his strength, discipline, and enduring sense of duty.

Following his military service, Damon built a long and successful career with AT&T, where he worked as a project manager for more than 30 years before retiring in 2010. Never one to stop learning, Damon went on to earn his MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1995, later returning to his alma mater to teach business management — a role that allowed him to inspire and mentor the next generation of leaders.

A man of many interests and endless curiosity, Damon loved the outdoors and found joy in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and tending to his garden, especially his thriving peppers and tomatoes. He loved to feel the sun on his face, to listen to the rain from his porch, and to watch the birds and squirrels that visited his yard. Sports were another passion — he was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, and he followed both IU basketball and Purdue football with equal enthusiasm.

Damon was a man of deep faith and fellowship, a devoted member of New Life Church in Indianapolis. His giving spirit and warm hospitality were well known to all who crossed his path. Whether hosting family cookouts or neighborhood gatherings, he was most at home behind the grill or in the kitchen preparing everything from scratch and making sure everyone left well-fed and smiling.

He had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed playing the guitar in his spare time. In earlier years, he proudly served as a Boy Scout leader, sharing his love of nature and adventure with younger generations. Above all, Damon cherished his family — every moment spent together was a gift, and his love and guidance will continue to live in their hearts.

Damon is survived by his children, Nathan Cloud (Kelly Powers Cloud), Joshua (Charity) Cloud, and Danae Cloud; his grandchildren, Ella Cloud, Abigail Cloud, Julia Cloud, Emma Brooks-Shroyer, Laura Cloud, Joshua Cloud, Aidan Mesa, Jonah Mesa, and Asher Mesa; his former spouse and mother of his children, Susan Foltz; his former son-in-law, Miguel Mesa; his sister, Sharon (Larry) Scott; and his nieces and nephews, Jason Scott, Jamie Scott, Jennifer Scott, and Jeremy Scott, along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known his generous heart and steady spirit.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors conferred by a contingent from the Indy Metropolitan Military Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Any donations made to The Cloud Foundation, a family-run public charity, in his honor will be directed by his family toward the causes, people, and groups he loved.
