Danny was a loving husband, son, brother, and friend. He had the heart and soul of a warrior. His chuckle and wit will be greatly missed. He was always the first to help or offer guidance whether you wanted it or not. Danny wore many hats that allowed him to meet and work with amazing people throughout his life.

He was athletic through high school playing sports—primarily soccer and football, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1990. He was proud that he helped develop Greenwood's soccer program for future soccer players

He was a mentor and counselor to children with T1 diabetes. He spent his teenage years going to summer camps and bicycle trips with other T1Ds. He was a large part of building the Chapel and seats that still grace Happy Hollow camp.

Danny owned and operated his own business as a contractor and carpenter, DBB Construction LLC, for 30+ years. He lived and breathed anything construction and shared his knowledge with his clients. He would install a microwave, remodel your bathroom, or build a structure foundation to roof with pride and dedication.

Danny, known to his Abate family, as Cap'n Jack, loved riding his Indian and cherished his biker family. He loved judging at Battle of the Bands each year and rocked out to metal, hard rock, and country music. He was a member of the security team for the Boogie and was adamant about keeping his brothers and sisters safe. He also was a member of the construction team for many years.

Danny was a proud Christian who reminded you of what was honest and followed God's Word. He loved sharing his love for Christ with others. He was once ordained to officiate a wedding—an honor he was proud of.

Danny is survived by his wife, Amy; his parents; his stepson, Jacob Klus; his siblings, David Bertolet and Pamela (Michael) Bandy; and several nieces and nephews; his dog, Hank; his cat, Smokey; his biker family; and his camp family.
