Daniel Koehl passed away on Thursday, September 17th, 2026. He was born to Paul and Lovada Koehl on September 26, 1948, in Indianapolis, IN. He was also a resident of Helena, Montana, for over 20 years and recently returned to Indiana, where he spent his final days with family and close friends. He also lovingly doted on his granddaughter, Erin Koehl, who was his caregiver for many years.

Dan served in the United States Army from January 21, 1969, until his honorable discharge on January 3, 1976. After leaving the Army, he became a police officer and then a truck driver, which he loved, visiting 49 of 50 states and Canada. In later years, one of the things he loved most was spending time with his friends at breakfast, having multiple coffee refills, and striking up conversations; he could always make friends anywhere.

Dan also believed in philanthropy, performing acts of service over many years in Indiana and Montana. Dan worked tirelessly, spending countless hours to benefit disabled veterans, including through the Coffee Program he created. Since 2007, through his efforts with the Mountain State Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, he has launched a coffee drive that has provided more than 10,000 cans of coffee. This program provides veterans and workers at the Outpatient Clinic and Medical Center a place to gather freely, communicate, and discuss what matters to veterans and how their circumstances can be improved.

He is predeceased by his parents and siblings: Gloria Herman, Mary Kortzendorf, Rose Wallner, David John, Thomas, Ted, Sue William, and Michael. Dan is survived by his siblings, Jerry Koehl, Tina Pate, and Paula. Further surviving family includes his children, Karl Koehl and Teresa Arnett, along with grandchildren Tasha, Erin, Kimberly, Katrina, Joshua, and Emily. Dan also has seven great-grandchildren, including Harmony, Serenity, and Raziel.
